Tucson Tea Party founder tells TPM that her group is “deeply saddened” by today’s shooting spree but will not tone down its rhetoric.
Among the many notable bits of news to emerge from the press conference law enforcement just gave in Tucson is that there is a second person of interest in the case who has not yet been detained.
In an email to House staff obtained by TPM, the House sergeant-at-arms says that there is no indication that today’s shooting was “part of any larger threat against Congress or has a nexus to terrorism.”

In case you weren’t watching earlier this evening, the main development from this evening’s press conference by Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik was Dupnik’s suggestion that his office is not convinced Loughner acted alone. He was understandably sketchy with details. But he said his office is “actively in pursuit” of another individual possibly tied to the incident.
Shocking as it may be, to me at least, Rep. Giffords apparently regained consciousness after surgery, was able to speak to people in her hospital room and was able to recognize her husband.
Pretty amazing story in Arizona Republic about Daniel Hernandez, a heroic college junior who’d been an intern in Giffords’ office for five days when she was shot and whose quick thinking and bravery may well have saved her life.
