There’s a very important and rather bizarre story out of Wisconsin today. And one we’re going to be watching closely. New Gov. Scott Walker (R) is proposing stripping all government workers of their collective bargaining rights. And to add a weirdly Mubarak-like angle to it he’s now flaunting the fact that he’s put the state national guard on alert in case there is labor unrest in response to the loss of collective bargaining rights.

In his speech tonight at CPAC, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels announced that the nation is facing a new “Red Menace,” a challenge and a threat “as great as those of the 1860s, or the 1940s, or the long twilight of the Cold War.”
Picking up on the ancestral tradition, South Carolinians have spent much of the last two years asserting various forms of independence from the federal government and attempting to block different federal laws. Every year, one of the big news headlines coming out of CPAC is who wins the closely-watched presidential straw poll. It’s worth pointing out that it’s not clear that it has any predictive value whatsoever. If we followed past signs, you’d think that the USA was already being run by a hereditary Ron Paul dynasty. All that notwithstanding, the results are expected shortly. Our Evan McMorris-Santoro who’s there on the scene says there are apparently a few hundred more votes cast than in previous years.
