Of all the posturing over Wisconsin yesterday, no one laid it on the line quite like Sen. Orrin “I’ve been a tea partier since Boston” Hatch (R-UT). “This is not the way public servants should behave,” Hatch scolded, chiming in on an issue in which he has no apparent stake other than to burnish his tea party cred and avoid getting primaried in 2012.
Events in Wisconsin have reminded a lot of readers of the Great Texas Skedaddle of 2003, when Democrats in the Texas House fled the state to try to thwart then-Majority Leader Tom Delay’s re-redistricting plan that would eventually pick up a handful of extra U.S. House seats for the GOP.
