Earlier in the day I thought I had understood — perhaps mistakenly — that the Japanese nuclear power reactors affected by the earthquake and tsunami had been stabilized. But the latest reports suggest the Japanese are still struggling to keep those reactors under control.
Japanese officials are now confirming an explosion at one of the nuclear power plants they were struggling to keep under control following yesterday’s massive earthquake. Radiation has reportedly escaped but the amounts are unclear and it remains uncertain whether the explosion signifies that a disastrous meltdown of the reactor core is underway.
