We reported late Friday that Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) very unexpectedly had drawn a very serious Republican primary opponent at the very last moment. Came in just ahead of the filing deadline. The guy’s name is Chet Traylor, and he’s a former elected Justice of the Louisiana state Supreme Court. The key, though, as David pointed out, is that Traylor is extremely wired within business-backing Republican circles in the state, as evidenced in part by the business backing he got when he first ran for the Court seat. Both implicitly and sometimes explicitly, Traylor came into the race with a big chunk of the GOP and business establishment in the state saying he was their guy.
