We told you there was that big House Dem caucus meeting tonight where Nancy Pelosi implored her members to get on board with a vote before the election on President Obama’s tax cut plan. Here’s our report.
But as Brian Beutler reports, Dems are starting a whole other fight amongst themselves over whether the House or Senate should have to go first.
Amazing. Carl Paladino doesn’t just beat but appears to have crushed Rick Lazio. 45% of the vote in and it’s 67% to 33%.
It turns out that Christine O’Donnell back during the Lewinsky scandal was on Bill Maher’s old Politically Incorrect show. A lot. A few old videos from her appearances from back in the day after the jump.
Weirdly enough, by comparison with her MTV appearance discussing her crusade against masturbation, they’re rather tame. Read More
It’s turning into a bizarrely long night for the New Hampshire election returns. The polls closed at 7 PM and there are still only 50% of the vote counted. And Ayotte just took the lead for the first time tonight — 39% to 38%. The trends been in her direction basically since the count was in the single digits. So the question is what votes remain to be counted. Manchester and Nashua are both in.
Hannity crushed as Rove tells him, Sorry, O’Donnell’s a nut. Watch the video.
DC Mayor Adrian Fenty’s concession came in the wee hours of the morning. Vincent Gray’s victory speech here.
Still no final result in the GOP primary for U.S. Senate in New Hampshire. The latest tally has Kelly Ayotte up by fewer than 1,000 votes on Ovide Lamontagne, with 85 percent of precincts counted.
Our Evan McMorris-Santoro makes a good point this morning. Christine O’Donnell, albeit only 41, has been in the Crazy ™ business for a long time. And that’s left a paper and a digital trail. So you’ve got classics like this from the 90s where she tells MTV about the group she’s founded to combat the scourge of masturbation (see the video). And she was a frequent guest on Bill Maher’s old ‘Politically Incorrect’ as well as C-Span. But that also means she’s got a lot of experience on TV. As Evan notes, it’s a very different trajectory from your Sharron Angle type candidate. The first part of the equation is that the national party appears to have completely abandoned her. So there’s no one there — a la Angle — to keep her away from interviews. But it’s not just that. She may be nuts. But she’s no stranger to going on national TV. So she’s going to deliver the Crazy ™ in a much more polished, coherent way.
As you can see there was a lot of eye-popping election news last night. But there were also key developments on the Obama Plan tax cut front and whether the Dems are going to force a vote on the Republicans before the November election.
Two key pieces to read. 1) Pelosi implores Dems to go for a pre-election vote on the middle class tax cuts before the November election in an all-caucus meeting last night with her Democratic members. 2) Dems start bickering amongst themselves over whether House or Senate should have to go first. Both key reads if you’re following this story.
