What Would Jesus Do?

Not sure this terribly surprises me. But a new poll shows that Christians are much more opposed to the Park51 (aka ‘Ground Zero Mosque’) project than Muslims (14%), atheists/agnostics (32%) or Jews (43%).

Again, not sure that’s terribly surprising. But here’s what did surprise me a bit. Catholics (60%) were significantly more opposed than Protestants (49%).

Who Kidnapped Darrell Issa?

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), who is set to become chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee in the new Congress, has been on what appears to be a “I’m reasonable, really” offensive since the election.

The Phantom Pelosi Letter

So what about that secret Pelosi letter? The one being circulated among defeated members of the Democratic caucus asking Pelosi not to run? The one obtained by Fox News?

I just spoke to a senior staffer in the office of one of those defeated Democrats. And this is a member who had been quite critical of Speaker Pelosi for some time. No one’s sent or shown the letter to them. They’ve heard about it from reporters. But not from any other congressional offices.

Makes me pretty skeptical.

Oklahoma Back Under Sharia Law

As you’d probably heard, on election day Oklahoma voters voted by a 70% margin to ban Sharia Law in their state. But now a federal judge has issued an injunction barring the state board of elections from certifying the amendment, which would otherwise have taken effect tomorrow.

It’s a funny thing. We’ve snarked a lot about this amendment, which seems, shall we say rather needless since I don’t have the sense that Oklahoma will be declared a Muslim theocracy any time in … say, at least the next ten years or so. But the claim brought by Muneer Awad, the head of the Oklahoma branch of CAIR, seems pretty strong: namely, that this amendment creates an “official disapproval of his faith” under the state’s constitution. I’m sure this will bring a fresh round of “oh nos!” from the Islam hysteria crowd. But I’m really not surprised the judge issued this injunction.
