It would appear that the prolonged Democratic race is taking at least a short-term toll on party unity, as measured by the percentages of Hillary and Obama backers who wouldn’t support the opposing candidate in the general election. I believe the numbers are as high as they have ever been. For example, among Hillary backers in North Carolina, less than 50% say they would vote for Obama in the general.
Nets say Indiana too close to call.
Late Update: Fox is reporting that the preliminary exit polls give Hillary a 52-48 win in Indiana. But Fox is not yet calling the race, and as we’ve seen, Obama seems to do better in the early round of exits than he ultimately does in the final returns.
I really never imagined that Hillary Clinton would become Pat Buchanan’s heartthrob. But maybe it was a failure of imagination.

Remember, Gary, Indiana is in Lake County. And Lake has yet to report any votes tonight.
Tonight’s North Carolina results have the Obama campaign shooting to wrap up a majority of the pledged delegates on May 20.
