Bob Costas’ phone interview last night with former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, the man accused of the serial sexual abuse of boys, is riveting television, a fine example of the good journalism that sportscasters should be doing more of, and, most importantly, is an appalling glimpse at the man at the center of what is perhaps the biggest scandal in American sports history.
What his attorney was thinking when he signed off on this interview is beyond me, and he sits right there with Costas listening without betraying any hint of regret for the terrible decision to let his client speak publicly.
