There is some Dutch company that has some kind of improved skimmer that they’ve used to clean up oil spills in Europe, and the fact that they offered to help and were turned down by BP and the administration is making the rounds among teabaggers as evidence that Obama wants the spill to go on and is deliberately avoiding cleaning it up (see, for example, this discussion. Of course, just like Kevin Costner and the guy with oil-absorbing hay, if you look up the original references, you find that the capacity is far too small for a leak this size.
It turns out that the Dutch do have really good skimming technology. But it’s because they do their own off-shore drilling.
