I didn’t want to get too ahead of ourselves. But I think it’s time to reveal this: For the first time in seven years, we have commissioned a real live metal-cast Golden Dukes statuette (it’s not technically ‘alive’ but you know what I mean). Yeah, we’ve always had the representation of the notional statuette you see in the picture above. But now it’s getting real. And I mean really real. The first edition of the statuette is currently taking shape at an artist’s workshop at an undisclosed location in the Shenandoah Valley.

We plan to award a true Golden Duke to at least one of the winners of this year’s Golden Dukes in person. And it’s even possible that the winner may chose to inflict some sort of physical injury on the TPM staffer who bestows it. But we’re okay with that. Because the Dukes are that important. Especially if the winner doesn’t actually use the statuette to strike anyone, which would be weird.

Now we’re considering having more Golden Duke statuettes cast for readers who may want to become part of history and purchase one. If you’re interested, drop us a line and let us know. So we can see whether there’s enough demand for it to make sense.

But there it is. Edition seven of the Golden Duke Awards. This year it’s for real …
