To catch you up, the Supreme Court late yesterday dealt a blow to that Kentucky county clerk who is still refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses. She was seeking a stay of the lower court order to issue the licenses while she appealed the decision. The Supreme Court declined to issue a stay.

But this morning the clerk is still refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, citing “God’s authority.” Here’s a report from the clerk’s office on this morning’s continued impasse.

The next step for the same-sex couple’s counsel is probably to seek to hold the clerk in contempt of court. We’ll be following this closely so stay tuned.

One amusing sidenote: Over the weekend, a transgender man and his wife revealed that they had received a marriage license earlier this year from the same clerk, no questions asked. Apparently they passed as a straight, hetero couple.
