TPM Reader BC on why the ‘Chick-Fil-A’ Appreciation Day crazy yesterday was no joke …
I just saw your picture of the day and felt it was a good opportunity to express some of my thoughts and feelings about what happened yesterday in regards to Chick-Fil-A appreciation day. I do not think that any of the stories that have been written (at TPM or otherwise) capture, in the slightest bit, how this has effected people within the LGBT community.
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) lines up to buy a chicken sandwich at Chick-Fil-A to fight Teh Gay.
If you’re a political reporter and don’t feel equipped to adjudicate the latest row over Mitt Romney’s tax plan, consider this:
Nobody — no economist, no analyst, no think tank — has been able to make Romney’s tax math work. At least, not without adding heaping quantities of Magic Romney Growth Elixir⢠to the formula, and a lot of hand waving. Romney’s big claim is that he can cut everyone’s taxes by 20 percent, without adding a penny to the deficit, and without reclaiming the lost revenue from the pockets of lower and middle class workers.
Even under generous assumptions, this is likely impossible. Read More
This morning we’re releasing PollTracker Mobile, an iPhone version of TPM Media’s PollTracker poll aggregator. It’s free for download in the App Store, and it’s beyond question the best polling app for following the 2012 cycle.
It offers polls for every race across the United States right at your fingertips, including the presidential race, congressional contests, governorships and state issue contests.
And if you’re a real campaign junkie like me: real-time notifications. Just choose the races you want to follow on the app and you’ll get notified the moment a new poll from that race is released. For me, finding out a day or even a few hours later that a big presidential poll came out isn’t good enough. I want to know right away. Like — gimme my crack! — right away. Maybe you feel that way about the Massachusetts or Missouri senate race. Or presidential polls in Ohio or Virginia or maybe that House race out West nobody but you is paying attention to. PollTracker mobile has you covered for all of them. (For FAQ, notes on methodology and support, click here.)
So before I say anymore, it’s free for download in the AppStore. Please download it. Try it. Tell us what you think and tell your friends. Read More
More Harry Reid on Mitt Romney: “I don’t think the burden should be on me. The burden should be on him. He’s the one I’ve alleged has not paid any taxes. Why didn’t he release his tax returns?”
Jon Stewart to Harry Reid: “You’re the Senate Majority Leader, you can’t just run to the Side-Boob Gazette with ridiculous speculations about what may or may not be in Mitt Romney’s taxes. That’s this show’s job.”
“That is so different from what my book actually says that I have to doubt whether Mr. Romney read it.”
Jared Diamond, author of Guns, Germs, and Steel and Collapse, taking Mitt Romney to task in today’s NY Times for totally missing the point of his work.
I won’t be the only one to have thought of this.

One of the greatest sins in our politics today is the way one party (the Republicans) has aggressively moved to disenfranchise voters who predominantly vote for the other party (the Democrats). (It’s one of the abiding and perhaps most significant results of the 2010 mid-term election.) As I said late last month, it’s the closest you get in democratic politics to mortal sin. The undeniable fact is that voter impersonation fraud (the only thing voter ID laws protect against) is extraordinarily rare in the United States, verging on non-existent. And the evidence is incontrovertible that large numbers of people are prevented from voting because of it. Read More
