Well, it turns out the Path to Citizenship in the Gang of 8 immigration bill is the real deal.
Others have kicked this around a bit already — the media’s, and our collective, obsession with the word “terrorism.” But it was still nagging at me late into the night and early this morning, and it wasn’t until an hour or two after President Obama’s remarks yesterday that I put my finger on exactly why.
Two reasons really. Starting with the first: Why were so many people in the media standing on pins and needles, wondering whether Obama would call what happened in Boston terrorism? Obviously the word is heavily charged, and carries great political and legal significance, and if reporters were really interested in how Obama himself viewed what happened — and thus how he might respond to it — it would be perfectly appropriate. Officials brief press on marathon bombing. Watch.
One of the three dead in yesterday’s attack was 8 year old, Martin Richard, whose father was running in the marathon.
Just to bring you up to date, as yesterday’s events were unfolding, Republican opposition to the background check bill grew and the bill itself may now be in danger.
From Teresa Hanafin of the Globe: “The police, FBI, and ATF officials who were gathered at an apartment building in Revere have left the scene without talking to reporters.”
This report from Hanafin is quite terse. But it seems to supersede the various reports about a raid or search in Revere.

Local TV news in Boston is reporting that a home in Revere, Mass is currently being searched by federal and local authorities. The local Fox affiliate reports that an unnamed law enforcement source says the search is tied to the Marathon bombing.
Remember, we may see many of these that do not pan out. What seems clear is that a home is being searched at this moment as part of the bombing investigation. But we shouldn’t assume more than that. We’ll bring you more information as we get it.
