The Grassley amendment had majority, bipartisan support. The Cornyn and Burr amendments got MORE votes than Manchin, but because Dems ‘filibustered,’ they didn’t pass.”

Ever since Mark Sanford’s infidelity scandal and ‘Appalachian Trail’ entered the political lexicon as a sex euphemism, political operatives have been fantasizing about the epic, ultimate Appalachian Trail attack ad. The DCCC just put it on the air in South Carolina, apparently with a big cash investment (over $200k). Watch.
Lots of talk today about how the Senate couldn’t muster 60 votes to allow a vote on background checks. But a larger number of Senators actually voted to loosen gun regulations.

It has been somber around here as you could expect and everyone remains jumpy (a part of my hospital was evacuated yesterday because of a smoking car in drop off area), so I was less angry at the gun safety legislation loss than disappointed. It just seems a pattern of late. That said, I am cautiously encouraged by what happened.
