New polls just out from Quinnipiac …
FLORIDA: Clinton 46 – Trump 45, Johnson 2
NORTH CAROLINA: Clinton 47 – Trump 44, Johnson 3
OHIO: Trump 46 – Clinton 41, Johnson 5
PENNSYLVANIA: Clinton 48 – Trump 43, Johnson 3
All told, pretty solid for Clinton – at least against baselines of last few days.
For those watching at home, I would say the biggest poll of the week was released about a half hour ago. It was the Maquette University Law School poll conducted by Professor Charles Franklin. Remember, we spoke to Charles in Episode #4 of my new podcast.
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), who looks all but certain to be defeated on Tuesday, is already calling for (not actually) President Clinton’s impeachment.
It’s November 2 and the PollTracker Average stands at Clinton 46.7 percent, Trump 44.8 percent, a 1.9 percentage-point spread.
The TPM Electoral Scoreboard stands at Clinton 273, Trump 215. Florida, Nevada, and North Carolina are in the Toss Up category.
Writing this book manuscript has allowed me to bring together, focus and refine my ideas about Trump, the 2016 election and the country’s politics generally. It’s a bit taxing since I’m doing it during the busiest time of the four year cycle. But it’s nevertheless crystalized for me that Trumpism is basically the emergence of white nationalism and authoritarianism as the driving forces on the American right today.
Here’s the FBI’s explanation of what happened with this afternoon’s Marc Rich probe document release…
The FBI’s Records Management Division receives thousands of FOIA requests annually which are processed on a first in, first out (FIFO) basis. By law, FOIA materials that have been requested three or more times are posted electronically to the FBI’s public reading room shortly after they are processed. Per the standard procedure for FOIA, these materials became available for release and were posted automatically and electronically to the FBI’s public reading room in accordance with the law and established procedures.
We are rolling out some site upgrades this evening that should make the site faster for both regular readers and Prime members. Please let us know if you see the difference in speed. Of course, if you see problems please let us know about those two. You can hit us on both fronts at our main comments email which is linked just below the TPM logo on each page.
FBI cranks up long dormant twitter account with 4 am tweetstorm just in time to release case file of Marc Rich/Bill Clinton investigation.
Something very odd is happening on one of the FBI’s Twitter accounts. The account, @FBIRecordsVault was dormant for a year and just over the last two days has tweeted a flurry of Clinton related documents. More in a moment.
Update: Here’s our first write up on what we’ve learned.
A list of election/numbers observations to peruse as you bite your nails and obsess over the polls.
