Why Obamacare Ain’t Going Nowhere

As Dylan Scott notes in this morning’s piece, we haven’t been hearing too much about Obamacare recently. In large part, that’s because the doom-predicting news reports that serve as the fossil fuels powering the anti-Obamacare clown show have been in short supply. In fact we seem to have blown past Peak Clown and onto a genuine Clown Show scarcity crisis. Today Dylan some of the good news that’s driving the scarcity: In every state so far, more insurers are asking to participate in Obamacare in year two than in year one. A simple fact that speaks louder than all the speculative metrics.

Thad Not Going Quietly; or “Hookers and Blow for Everyone.”

He’s got a helluva challenge on his hands if he’s going to come back and beat Chris McDaniel. But Thad Cochran at least seems to be making a fight of it on TV. Here’s a new TV* ad which has what appear to be various off color remarks from a radio show McDaniel used to host: lots of talk about ‘hookers and blow for everyone’, female candidates who are “using her breasts to run for office.” Not totally shocking for what you hear on talk radio. But maybe a problem for a would-be United States Senator. Here’s the ad after the jump …

Happy Birthday

Today is the 239th birthday/anniversary of the creation of the United States Army. The Marines are every-so-slightly younger. Theirs comes up in November. What has always struck me – though it makes sense – is that the Army (as are the Marines) is slightly older than the country itself, just over a year.

No Move Up From the Kids Table?

I think Josh Green has this about right. Yesterday, I noted that after a flurry of non- and aborted candidacies, the House GOP caucus was about to replace Eric Cantor with someone the Tea Party views as either equivalent to Cantor or if anything slightly less conservative or stalwart in his politics. This requires some explanation. The Tea Party, even if most of the national groups were out of the loop, just effectively decapitated the GOP leadership in the House, arguably in the whole Congress. And they didn’t mobilize quickly to put one of their own in his place?

That’s weird.

When Prime is Not Enough

TPM Reader JC adds shrewd perspective …

I find TPM to be my most trusted source for US political news. It’s worth every penny I pay for my Prime membership. In fact, it’s worth a lot more than $50 a year to me. I would like to pay at least $25 a month and would be happy to pay $50 a month. Would you folks please consider allowing folks to subscribe at levels about $50 a year? I am not looking for extra benefits or features; I just think some (and hopefully many) of your readers place an even higher value on the amazing and reliable resource you have built for us.

1. Did I like this email: Yes.
2. Did I write it: No.
3. Do I blame you for suspecting I might have: Not entirely.
4. Did I mention that we really need you to become a member? Don’t all answer at once.

After the jump, I answer JC’s question and also explain how we’re making sure that no one is shut out of Prime because they lack the means to pay the fee.
