We have an exciting newly expanded position in our New York City office overseeing TPM’s breaking news coverage. Details below:
In these days of partisan division and epistemic siloing we all live in bubbles of a sort. But some, quite simply, do so so much more than others. Remember: once you unskewed the polls, Romney was really winning. And sometimes, sleep walking, Karl Rove is still looking for those beleaguered Fox News number crunchers because, gosh darnit, Romney is still picking up votes in Ohio. Some are still living in that own private Ohio. Today though the long twilight struggle between numbers and the power of positive thinking has moved on to the fresh fields of ObamaCare.

Sen. Angus King (I-ME) says he may switch to the GOP caucus after the mid-term election – presumably if the Republicans take over the Senate or come close enough where King’s vote could push them into the majority. A friend of mine wrote in to ask if this didn’t make King look a bit silly and whether it might not cause him problems with both Senate caucuses.
Yes, to silly. No, to damage with either party since both may soon need him. But the bigger deal is that I just don’t think this threat is credible.
It’s official: Colbert to replace Letterman.
I will say that I couldn’t be happier that Colbert is taking over for Letterman, though I understand some had hoped (quite reasonably) that perhaps the time had come for a female entrant into the top-tier late night slots. One thought I have though is that I feel like coming out of character might be a bigger adjustment than people imagine.
The NRA wants to make sure lots of people have guns the next time a riot breaks out in Florida. One local sheriff’s take? It’s “the definition of insanity.”
Krauthammer tells Republicans it’s time to let go, move on from Benghazi. Watch.
The hopes, the dreams, the blue Benghazi ribbon avatars on twitter. Letting go is hard.
