Disappointing as some of the reactions to college football player and soon to be NFL draft pick, Michael Sam, coming out of the closet have been, I must say that when the battle for equality has moved to the pro-Football locker room, the antis are way back on their ten or maybe 5 yard line.

House Republicans are scheduling a vote for Wednesday on a proposal to lift the debt limit for roughly one year. But what was once a reckless game of chicken has descended into a ridiculous charade. Gone are the days when House Republicans threatened to force the country into default if the President wouldn’t agree to vast cuts in spending. Now, as the price of a debt limit increase, Republicans are demanding a spending increase.
Nevada will no longer defend its state constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage. The decision was formally made by Democratic Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto. But notably, Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval says he agrees with the decision.
To be clear, that doesn’t mean same sex marriage is now legal. It means that no one will defend the amendment against the various lawsuits assailing it and similar state bans around the country.
The tea party may have suffered some crushing defeats, but Sahil Kapur reports on how in many ways, they’re still running the show.

About five years ago, my wife had a small battle with skin cancer, and underwent two small procedures to remove a cancerous growth. Beyond the shock of a late-twenty something hearing the words “you” and “cancer” in the same sentence, there were no serious medical consequences.
