Hunter Walker wrote for us last month about the possibility of a close finish in the Democratic primary for NYC mayor and the legal and political chaos likely to follow — which is about where we are today.
To pinpoint the issue: Bill de Blasio has just enough votes right now to avoid a runoff. But just barely. And there are, according to the AP, some 30,000 absentee, provisional, and other ballots remaining to be counted. Plus a mandated recount of all the ballots.
All of this to determine whether de Blasio has to go through a runoff three weeks from now, on Oct. 1, or can move straight to the general election Nov. 5, in which he is expected to defeat Republican nominee Joe Lhota handily.
The latest from Colorado: Both Democratic state senators have been recalled over their votes earlier this year in favor of new restrictions on guns. This is a win for the NRA and its allies.
