I’m sure many of you got a kick over the mini-implosion of Mitch McConnell’s reelection campaign yesterday, with his own campaign manager admitting that he thinks McConnell sucks and is only working for him to further the hopes of Rand Paul. It all ended up with this cringey-not-going-to-fix-the-damage picture of Mitch and his disser yucking up for the picture above. I get it. I thought it was hilarious too. But let’s be clear. Mitch McConnell tries laughing off getting trashed by his own campaign manager … but not sure this is working.
With Congress on recess, we turn to cable TV to find the hard news of the day.
I’m truly stunned by this. Jesse Benton, Mitch McConnell’s campaign manager, says ” I’m sorta holding my nose for two years cause what we’re doing here is gonna be a big benefit to Rand in ’16.”
Benton’s a Paul loyalist. McConnell hired him to defuse/curry favor on that front. So it’s not terribly surprising that he thinks that. Saying it is another thing entirely.

Don’t miss Sahil Kapur’s excellent piece this morning about how Immigration Reform could actually still end up passing. But I can’t help noting, look how far we’ve come. This was supposed to be a total done deal. Something was after whatever amount of bleating and hassle had to happen because Democrats wanted it and Republicans desperately needed it.
