Obama: McDonnell’s Omission Of Slavery From Confederate History ‘Unacceptable’
In an interview with ABC News, President Obama said that Gov. Bob McDonnell (R-VA) made “an unacceptable omission” by not mentioning slavery in his proclamation for Confederate History Month. “I don’t think you can understand the Confederacy and the Civil War unless you understand slavery,” said Obama.
Obama’s Day Ahead
President Obama held a bilateral meeting in Prague with Czech President Vaclav Klaus, at 9:30 a.m. CEST (3:30 a.m. ET). He departed from Prague at 10:25 a.m. CEST. He will arrive back at Andrews Air Force Base at 1:05 p.m. ET, and at the White House at 1:20 p.m. ET.
Biden’s Day Ahead
Vice President Biden will meet with senior advisers in the morning. He will then travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and attend a 12:30 p.m. ET event for Rep. Bob Brady (D-PA). In the evening, he will attend an event in honor of the opening of the Delaware Children’s Museum in Wilmington, Delaware.
WaPo: Threats Against Members of Congress Triple
The Washington Post reports that threats against members of Congress have tripled in recent months, in connection with the health care debate. “The incidents ranged from very vulgar to serious threats, including death threats,” said Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Terrance W. Gainer, who had information about threats involving both chambers. “The ability to carry them out is another question and part of an investigation to determine what, if any, appropriate steps to take.”
Medvedev: ‘I Have Outlined Our Limits’ For Iran Sanctions
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has signaled support for some sanctions against Iran’s nuclear program — but there are some lines that will not be crossed. “Let me put it straightforward,” said Medvedev, after meeting with President Obama at Prague Castle. “I have outlined our limits for such sanctions.”
Gingrich Blasts Obama’s ‘Secular, Socialist Machine’
Speaking at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference, former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) lambasted President Obama: “The most radical president in American history has now thrown down the gauntlet to the American people: ‘I run a machine. I own Washington and there’s nothing you can do about it.'” Gingrich also urged Republicans to stop what he called Obama’s “secular, socialist machine.”
Liz Cheney: Obama Policies Dishonor Fallen Soldiers
Speaking at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference, Liz Cheney accused President Obama of having a foreign policy strategy to “apologize for America, abandon our allies, and appease our enemies,” also adding: “It dishonors this nation and the brave men and women who have fought and died for our freedom.” Cheney also said: “If (Attorney General) Eric Holder is looking for patriots and heroes to bravely defend, I suggest he start with soldiers who have fought, captured and interrogated enemies of the American people.”
