Supporters of the man Sarah Palin and the Tea Party Express want to be the next Senator from Alaska, attorney Joe Miller, have a unique way of letting people know who they’ll be voting for in Alaska’s August 24 Republican primary — at a recent rally, they marched behind a giant black Hummer bearing Miller’s name and carried assault weapons.
The candidate’s take? Move along, nothing to see here.
“You know, guns are a pretty big thing up here in Alaska,” Miller explained on ABC News’ “Topline” webcast this afternoon. “It’s not unusual at political rallies, it’s not unusual at parades to see that kind of thing.”
“Probably, though, in the lower 48, it does raise some eyebrows,” Miller added.
The heavily-armed paraders raised eyebrows for at least one Alaskan: Longtime Palin critic and blogger Andrew Halcro, who posted video of the parade to his website under the headline, “Is this who you want in the U.S. Senate?”
(Halcro ran against Palin as an independent in 2006 and is supporting Miller’s opponent in the GOP Senate primary, incumbent Sen. Lisa Murkowski.)
