Late into election night on Tuesday the North Carolina Senate race was too close to call, well after the polls had closed.

With 88 percent reporting House Speaker Thom Tillis was leading Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) 49.1 percent to 47.1 percent.

Most polls going into election night showed Hagan with a small but durable two or three point lead over Tillis and the rest of the field.
