Conservative pundit Glenn Beck has a conspiracy theory involving Anthony Weiner, Democratic mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio, the “progressive media,” and a plot involving a “violent revolutionary taking over New York City.”
Beck was so alarmed by this dastardly scheme that he devoted a seven-minute segment of his show Tuesday on his network, TheBlaze TV, to warn people about the man who is likely to become the Big Apple’s next mayor.
Beck began his video by letting the audience know he was filming directly from the belly of the beast.
“I’ve been here in New York this week,” Beck said. “I keep telling everybody on the staff get out of New York. Why? Because of who the next mayor’s going to be.”
Beck went on to outline his theory that Weiner’s many scandals and failed mayoral bid were merely a “diversion” engineered by the “progressive media” to allow De Blasio to win the race.
“I think there’s a possibility the whole election where Anthony Weiners privates got more coverage than any of the candidates themselves was just a distraction,” explained Beck. “I think this theory might hold water because of who I think is going to be the actual mayor. The guy that slipped in that nobody paid attention to, Bill de Blasio.”
Beck continued by explaining that, as the Democratic nominee, de Blasio is likely to win the mayoral election.
“But who is Bill de Blasio?” Beck asked.
Beck’s answer to that question, complete with a menacing soundtrack and archival footage from war zones, was that de Blasio is “a Marxist communist with a history of supporting terrorism.”
Beck’s characterization was based on a New York Times article that detailed how, in the late 1980’s, de Blasio was a supporter of Nicaragua’s Sandinista revolutionaries, who have been accused of human rights violations.
“Sideshows, that’s what the progressive media is and wants us to focus on, sideshows,” said Beck. “What we should have really been asking is what happens after the circus is over. And the answer is Bill de Blasio, a violent revolutionary, taking over New York City.”
De Blasio’s campaign declined to comment on Beck’s statements.
