Glenn Beck Enraged At Boehner After Hearing Congress Can’t Attend His Israel Rally

Glenn Beck closes out the "Restoring Honor" rally in Washington, D.C. on August 28, 2010

Glenn Beck said that House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) “should be ashamed” of himself, after he heard that the House Ethics Committee put the kibosh on members of Congress attending Beck’s “Restoring Courage” rally in Israel next week.

Beck was talking to Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) on his radio show, which was being broadcast from Israel. Walsh, a Tea Party aligned Congressman who voted against raising the debt ceiling, told Beck that he would have liked to attend the rally, but the House Ethics Committee said that since it “had the appearance of a political event,” it “is not something the congressman should attend in office capacity based on a conflict of interest for him as a member.”

Walsh called it “terribly disappointing,” but Beck was even angrier, blaming Boehner for “playing politics” with Israel “in their hour of need.”

“Speaker Boehner, you should be ashamed of yourself,” Beck said. “The Republican Party should be ashamed of themselves.”

“Let them come to our biggest ally and the only friend we still have in the Middle East in their hour of need,” he continued. “They don’t have to attend my event, in fact I’ll ban them, does that make you happy? Let Congress come here. You should be ashamed of yourself for playing politics, and that’s what it is Boehner, and you know it.”

Watch:

The rally, which is scheduled for August 24 in Jerusalem, has already seen Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) cancel his appearance “because of a family commitment.” Though his office told the Washington Jewish Week that Lieberman still “supports this event and wishes he could be there in person to express his support.”

Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA), originally listed as a speaker by Beck, said he will not be attending — though he is actually in Israel on a separate trip that will end the same day as Beck’s rally.
