After a few words of sympathy for Christine Blasey Ford, Rachel Mitchell, the outside conusel brought in by Senate Republicans to question Blasey Ford about her sexual assault allegations against Brett Kavanaugh, began her questioning in earnest by asking Blasey Ford to review the previous statements she made about the assault, including a letter she wrote to Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) about it.

Among the details Blasey Ford sought to correct one of her written descriptions of one the alleged attendees of the party where Blasey Ford say she was groped; she said the attendee wasn’t a bystander, as she initially described him, because he was downstairs while the alleged incident took place in a bedroom upstairs.

Mitchell’s calm but meticulous effort to scrutinize Blasey Ford’s account was a striking scene. Behind her sat 11 male Republican Judiciary senators, staring intently at Blasey Ford.

Mitchel did not get very far in this line of questioning. Grassley interrupted her because the five minutes for GOP side of questioning was up, and it was time to toss it to the Democrats.

  1. So far I find Blasey Ford to be completely credible. I suspect the prosecutor is going to try to challenge her on how she got home, apparently it is miles from where they had the party. If Kavanaugh sticks to his story, he is going to look very, very bad.

Wow. It looks like Brett may actually go down. There’s her statement - gripping, horrifying, disturbing - and then there’s the fact that Kavanaugh has publicly stated that he was never black-out drunk, remained a virgin, etc.

He has to carry that standard into the testimony today. Yikes.

I’m surprised Grassley didn’t walk in with a scale and a duck

  4. This is so incredibly disturbing to witness. Dr Ford is extremely credible and her testimony is heartbreaking.

It is unbelievable that Republicans didn’t have the sense to get an FBI investigation first so this nomination could have been pulled before this circus began.

+1. My SO called him “Chuck Assley” he really is coming across as a total ass-hat. It was all about him, and how unfair that DaiFi did not promptly disregard Ford’s request for confidentiality so that he could turn his winged monkey’s loose on her.
