Haley Barbour said today that he’d support reinstating Don’t Ask Don’t Tell because “when you’re under fire, and people are living and dying on split-second decisions, you don’t need any kind of amorous mindset that can affect saving people’s lives and killing bad guys.”
On his radio show, Bryan Fischer, the “Director of Issues Analysis” for the social conservative American Family Association, described all of the potential hazards of having gay people serve in the military, and asked Barbour if he’d reinstate the policy “if it turns out it’s bad for the military.”
“Of course,” Barbour replied. “You look at the data and it is the foot-soldier, it is the person who is out there, boots on the ground, who is most against this. And it’s because they live or die with this. And that’s who we ought to be listening to, that’s who we ought to be caring about, and that’s why I am against it. I think it ought to be rolled back.”

Barbour’s not the first potential Republican presidential candidate to come out as pro-DADT on Fischer’s show. Tim Pawlenty did as well, and Mike Huckabee said the same on One News Now.
