From The Reporter’s Notebook
As the federal government and North Carolina filed dueling lawsuits this week over the state’s new law regarding transgender bathroom use, Texas Republicans dove into the issue at the school district level, TPM’s Caitlin MacNeal reported. Both the state’s lieutenant governor and attorney general have warned the Forth Worth school district against its new policy accommodating transgender students, potentially gearing up for a larger fight.
Agree or Disagree?
Josh Marshall: “Basically, the audit means nothing in terms of not releasing the returns. So why won’t Trump release them? I doubt the issue would be paying very little taxes, as it often is with very wealthy candidates. Trump’s clear that he works the system as aggressively as he can. It’s been one of the premises of his campaign. Quite possibly, even likely, a close examination of his tax returns would strengthen or even prove the claims of those who say that Trump isn’t worth anything like he claims. What if, God forbid, he wasn’t even technically a billionaire? Maybe that’s it.”
BUZZING: Today in the Hive
From a TPM Prime member: “Its interesting to me that just about the only thing that soothes the divisions between Sanders and HRC supporters is that we all love Elizabeth Warren. She just strikes the right balance — heart in the right place, a really good communicator and superior intelligence, and appeals to people’s better angels a lot like Obama. I admit, I wanted her to run for president — and if she doesn’t think VP is the right job for her, I will enthusiastically take her help wherever she thinks she is best able to serve the country.”
Related: Trump tweeted that Warren didn’t have the “guts” to run for president.
