The Gist: Both Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton would beat Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump in a general election, according to a CNN/ORC poll of national voters.

The Gist: In the case, Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, pro-choice forces are asking the court to strike down a Texas law mandating myriad restrictions that have a closed a large swath of its clinics. The lack of Scalia’s ninth vote — one that certainly would have favored the law’s defenders — blunts the potential impact of even an outcome that would amount to a loss for abortion rights activists.
Cornyn: Trump Could Be ‘Albatross’ That Dooms GOPers Up For Re-Election
The Gist: John Cornyn, the No. 2 Republican in the Senate, suggested that he was worried that if Donald Trump becomes the Republican presidential nominee, he could negatively effect some Republicans up for re-election in 2016.

Melania Trump said on CNN that she doesn’t always agree with what Donald says on the campaign trail, TPM’s Sara Jerde wrote. But, Melania reiterated Donald’s claim that his rhetoric would change if he’s elected. “To build the empire and the business that he did, you can’t always use that kind of tone,” Melania said. “He could really change the words and the tone.”

“It is really too bad for the Republican party (and the United States) that Marco Rubio is simply too weak a reed for the task his increasingly desperate and confounded party has set out for him. I’m not sure whether Rubio or someone else could have gotten traction if they’d started launching these pretty obvious attacks sooner or whether they’ll start to resonate over next couple weeks. (I think there’s a decent chance they will; I just suspect it will be too late.) But as I said over the weekend, the simple truth is that Donald Trump is just better at this than Marco Rubio. From a TPM Prime member: “It’s safe to say that successive party Presidencies just generally don’t happen. The last time it happened, Reagan into HW Bush, in many ways appear to be mirrored by HRC2016. HW was in many ways the third term of a popular President who was seen as a credible challenger and thus follow-up due to a heavily contested primary. In other words Bush and Reagan fought for the 1980 nomination and even though Reagan won that contest HW was basically seen as the 2nd choice or ‘next in line’ so that as he was Reagan’s VP his stature rose and continued until the 1988 contest where he won on the power of succeeding Reagan and basically getting his chance; the country was “Ready for Bush,” as it were. Clinton’s 2016 campaign is a spitting image here — playing next in line runner-up to Obama after a hard fought primary campaign where the next in line ultimately succeeds and continues the original winner’s policies.”
