A poll released on Wednesday showed that nearly half of South Carolina residents said they disapproved of the Confederate flag flying at the statehouse before this summer. But in a fall 2014 poll, only a third of S.C. residents said the flag should not fly at the statehouse. The poll’s director, Dr. Scott Huffmon, told TPM’s Caitlin MacNeal that this can be chalked this up to “social desirability” or “selective memory.”

From a TPM Prime member: “What I want is for [Bill Clinton] to stay out of the way. I want her to be treated the same as a male President and I want him treated the same as every other First Spouse. Is that realistic? I don’t know, it’s never come up before, but that’s what bothers me about the idea that it’s a twofer. If she is chosen and then elected, there is a lot riding on her shoulders. If she fails or seems to fail (GWB fail, not the usual Republican screaming of failure), it will seriously impact the ability to have another woman in the role. If it’s perceived that she can’t do it on her own (if Bill can’t stay behind the scenes), that damages women also.”
