Former President Bill Clinton told CNN, Friday, that he thought Donald Trump could be the GOP nominee, but he added that he had been out of politics “a long time” and wasn’t “the best pundit anymore.”

CNN’s Fareed Zakaria spoke with Clinton for an interview that aired Sunday and asked Clinton if he thought Trump could be the Republican nominee.

“I think so,” Clinton said. “How do I know? I don’t understand — I don’t understand any of it very well. I’ve been out of politics a long time. I haven’t run for office in 20 years.”

Clinton noted that he was proud of Hillary and would do what he could to help her in her 2016 presidential bid for the Democratic nomination.

“But I’m not the best pundit anymore. I don’t have a good feel for this,” Clinton said. “All I know is what I think’s good for the country. I think the country who needs somebody who can give us broadly shared prosperity, help families and kids, try to reduce the impact of all this huge anonymous money in our political system. And in a world full of challenges, keep big, bad things from happening.”

Clinton also called Trump a “master brander.”

“He’s got a lot of pizzazz and zip,” he added. “He’s branded himself in a clear way, and he’s generated some excitement.”
