Colbert On Debate: America Needs Leader With ‘Well-Honed Sense Of Zing’

The Romney and Obama campaigns have been playing down expectations for their respective candidates — and talking up the opposition — ahead of Wednesday night’s presidential debate. Mitt Romney will put on a great show, Obama aides say. President Obama is a gifted political communicator, the Romney camp claims.

But here’s how Romney will clinch it, Stephen Colbert said Tuesday: “zingers.” The Republican frontrunner has reportedly been practicing his one-liners since August.

“Because Americans need to know that their leader has a well-honed sense of zing,” Colbert said. “On day one, our new president must be able to face Iran’s leader and ask him if the place where he bought that shirt also has a men’s department.”
