KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The Kabul police say there has been a large explosion on a main road near the U.S. Embassy in the Afghan capital.

Deputy police chief Dawood Amin says the explosion took place on Tuesday a few hundred meters (yards) from the embassy gates in a central part of Kabul.

The gates are quite a distance from the actual U.S. Embassy building and also from nearby NATO headquarters.

The cause of the explosion was not immediately clear and there was no immediate report of any casualties.

The area also has a number of military facilities belonging to the U.S.-led coalition.
