A federal judge on Thursday restricted the release of documents obtained by the prosecution and defense in the corruption trial of former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) and his wife Maureen McDonnell, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.
The McDonnells were charged in January for illegally accepting gifts from a political donor.
Documents will only be able to be viewed by the defendants, their lawyers and potential witnesses, an uncommon restriction in criminal cases, a former prosecutor told the Times-Dispatch.
If one party wants to release a document, it must alert the other party. In the event of a dispute, a judge will make the ultimate decision.
