Interim Wayne State University Law School Dean Jocelyn Benson (D) won’t run for Congress, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Benson had been mentioned as a top prospect to challenge Rep. Kerry Bentivolio (R-MI), the tea party congressman who earlier in the year said it would be a “dream come true” to impeach President Barack Obama.
Benson had been seriously considering running for the seat, going so far as attending caucus meetings with House Democrats, according to Roll Call.
Benson, in an announcement to her colleagues at the law school on Tuesday, said that she had decided to continue as interim dean at the law school.
Benson’s decision does not leave Bentivolio without serious campaign opponents though. Attorney David Trott is running in the Republican primary for Bentivolio’s seat and former U.S. State Department official Bobby McKenzie and Dr. Anil Kumar are running in the Democratic primary.
