Speaking on the Senate floor on Tuesday, third-ranked Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer (NY) compared the latest House Republican plan to “lighting a match” to throw on gasoline as the U.S. approaches the Oct. 17 debt default deadline.

“Speaker Boehner decided to light a match and throw it on the gasoline that’s already all over the place,” Schumer said.
