Secretary of State John Kerry reassured Americans on Friday that a possible military intervention in Syria would not repeat the mistakes of the Iraqi invasion.

“More than mindful of the Iraq experience. We will not repeat that moment,” Kerry said in a statement from the State Department, urging those skeptical of evidence the Assad regime used chemical weapons to read a newly released unclassified intelligence assessment laying out the administration’s case.

More than 1400 people were killed as a result of the attack on Aug 21, including more than 400 children, according to the report.
