So much for Leahy’s admonition. In response to a question from Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA), McConnell reaffirmed that discussing the administration’s surveillance program in open session will endanger American lives.
Specter added, apparently assuming that McConnell was concerned about the disclosure of sensitive surveillance methods and not having the debate at all, âWell, if we get into that territory, Director McConnell, tell us, and we will desist on a public session, and then take it into private session, to find out what we need to know.â
