Law enforcement officials have officially arraigned Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who remains in “serious” condition, at his hospital bed on Monday, according to Boston TV station WCVB.
Tsaraev stands accused along with his now deceased brother Tamerlan of setting off two explosives at the Boston marathon last week. The complait against him has been sealed, however.
The source told ABC’s Pierre Thomas investigators were questioning the 19-year-old Tsarnaev about other cell members and other unexploded bombs, but said no details were given yet on answers.
White House press secretary Jay Carney said Monday that Tsarnaev will be prosecuted in a civilian court, despite calls from several Republicans to do so in the name of national security.
“He will not be treated as an enemy combatant,” he told reporters at the White House. “We will prosecute this terrorist through our civilian system of justice. Under U.S. law, United States citizens cannot be tried in military commissions.”
