Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the archbishop of Buenos Aires, Argentina, was elected the new pope Wednesday.

He has chosen the name Francis I, according to CNN, the first to take that name. Bergoglio is also the first pope from South America and the first Jesuit to become pope.
