President Obama on Thursday cited studies that the achievement gap begins at a very early age as the reason for his proposal for universal access to pre-school.
Obama traveled to Decatur, Ga., to push for universal pre-school, a proposal he introduced Tuesday in his State of the Union speech.
Study after study shows the “achievement gap starts out very young,” Obama said, citing a statistic that fewer than three in 10 four-year-olds are enrolled in a high quality preschool program.
