Twitter accidentally reset the passwords of an unspecified number of users whose accounts weren’t in danger of being hacked or improperly accessed, the company admitted in a statement on its “status” blog on Thursday. As Twitter wrote:
In this case, we unintentionally reset passwords of a larger number of accounts, beyond those that we believed to have been compromised. We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this may have caused.
The password reset emails Twitter sent out to users caused special commotion among China-focused users, who speculated that they were being targeted by Chinese government sponsored cyber espionage, as The Wall Street Journal Asia reported.
