The Commission On Presidential Debates is not happy with Pizza Hut’s brief foray into presidential debate questions. The chain launched a contest last week offering free pizza to any questioner at the Hofstra town hall debate who asked the presidential candidates about their preference between sausage and pepperoni as a pizza topping. After widespread public shaming, Pizza Hut canceled the promotion.
In the minutes before the Hofstra debate started Tuesday, debate commissioner Mike McCurry admonished the crowd not to participate in the Pizza Hut stunt.
“There is to be no texting, no tweeting, no e-mail, no voting in the Pizza Hut competition,” McCurry told the audience at Hofstra. “No voting in the Pizza Hut competition for pepperoni or sausage.”
