Apple on Monday announced it had sold five million iPhone 5 devices over the Sept. 21 weekend, or three days worth of sales (Fri-Sun). The sales total is a new record for the company, besting the four million iPhone 4S devices sold almost a year ago during that model’s debut weekend, the previous high mark. Still, some analysts found the iPhone 5 sales numbers disappointing, given the iPhone 5s strong start of two million devices in its first 24 hours of availability.
Apple’s launch of the iPhone 5 has also been marred by the replacement of Google Maps on the device with Apple Maps, which customers have reported to be glitchy and inaccurate, as well as reports of scratches on phones straight out of device boxes.
