Romney Takes No Position On Supreme Court Ruling On Life Sentences For Minors

Mitt Romney was asked by a local district attorney at a town hall in Colorado who said he successfully prosecuted a 17 year old rapist and murderer, whether Romney supported a recent Supreme Court ruling invalidating mandatory life sentences wihtout parole for minors.

“This is another issue that a number of people feel, come out on different sides on, people of good faith,” Romney said. He said the story “breaks my heart,” but didn’t take a position himself.

“I’ll look at that particular case, but I tell you I’m someone who comes down on the side of swift and severe punishment for those who commit these crimes,” he said.
