Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who finished second in Mexico’s recent presidential election, has announced that he will pursue legal means in challenging Enrique Pena Nieto’s electoral victory. Lopez Obrador’s claims come amidst allegations of the distribution of thousands of pre-paid gift cards to voters prior to the election, as well as claims that certain government officials allocated funds to Pena Nieto’s campaign.
According to Lopez Obrador, “We have evidence to say, and at the right time, to prove, that about five million votes were bought.” Calls for investigation have also been backed up by outgoing president Felipe Calderon.
