Al-Ahram, Egypt’s largest newspaper, reports that the Egyptian cabinet has submitted its resignation to the head of the Supreme Military Council. The cabinet will remain in place until Mohammad Morsi, who was announced as the country’s new president on Sunday, is sworn in.

The cabinet was headed by Prime Minister Kamal Ganzouri, who has been prime minister since November 2011. A government source says that if Ahmed Shafiq, Morsi’s opponent, had won the election, the cabinet would have delayed its decision to resign.
