A new U.N. report accuses the Syrian army and pro-government forces of using children as shields in the nation’s escalating civil war. According to the report:
In Syria, children were victims of killing and maiming, arbitrary arrest, detention, torture and ill-treatment, including sexual violence, by the Syrian Armed Forces, the intelligence forces, and the Shabbiha militia.
The report states that schools have also been raided by military personnel, and have been transformed into military bases and detention centers.
