A set of new polls from the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee say their candidates are within reach of three Wisconsin state Senate seats set for recall elections on June 5th. “The surveys show Democrat John Lehman leading by 4% in District 21, and Democrats Kristen Dexter and Donna Seidel are both within the margin of error in Districts 23 and 29,” Democrats said in a release, based on three polls of 400 likely recall voters in the various districts.
Republican incumbent Terry Moulton leads in Senate District 23, 49 percent to Dexter’s 47, while state Rep. Jerry Petrowski (R) leads fellow Rep. Seidel (D) by 6, 51 to 45.
From the polling memo, written by Democratic firm Myers Research and Strategic Services:
…in 2010 in the two of these three districts we polled we faced a massive enthusiasm gap and party selfidentification lagged dramatically behind what we would have expected given historical performance. However, that was then and today we see the opposite. Partisan identification has improved and is back to the level we would expect and more importantly, enthusiasm about the recall elections has rebounded and is at parity today…
The downside for Democrats is that the poll state may be a bit stale: calls were made into Senate District 23 from March 20 to 22, data from Senate District 21 was from April 3-5, and Seante District 29 interviews were done April 17-19. The surveys have a margin of error of 4.9 percent.
